TO MELO: You’re lucky to see Sta. Ana as early as now. Manidad Island is just one of the many tourist spots that Sta. Ana have. Unknown to many, this locality is really endowed with such alluring natural beauty and wealth. Hopefully, you can go back this summer (May 2008) for the VIRAY festival to experience the hospitality of the local people & sip more of Sta. Ana’s natural beauty. But I agree with your observation, that with the uncontrolled influx of chinese, korean, taiwanese & malay gamblers (many I think are also illegal aliens), Sta.Ana is soon to become a mere gambling, drug & prostitution den of the Northeast. Local people FEARED that with the continuous mushrooming of CASINOS(3 are even operating inside the Phil. Navy Base Camp)I don’t know why the Arroyo-government allow this arrangement. Or,is it all because of SOP?) and the foreign GAMBLERS, Sta. Ana will no longer be as naturally-rich & beautiful as SHE is now! There are really many “concealed” irregularities that is happening right now in this poor town. CEZA, claiming to be the “authority” in the area cannot even become honest & transparent to the local people. No genuine public hearings were undertaken as far as I can recall! Besides, I cannot see a single “visible” social preparation program that is going on in the place despite the on-going public disturbance!(pero sabi nila - DEVELOPMENT daw!) For whom? Is it for the public or for the people working for CEZA,the foreign investors, or ENRILE alone? I don’t know if I’m right, too with my observation that CEZA’s sole-priority now is to acquire/own the A&D if not all the LANDS of Sta. Ana. I think CEZA is maximizing its resources for this “purpose” for their more than a decade of existence now! Thank you for your concern to the people of Sta. Ana Melo. There are really many big questions on the minds of local residents to what is happening to their town now.
It brings back good memories of our beloved land, the Philippines. I will be a regular.
